Jesus, the day of his resurrection, spent 2 ½ to 3 hours, on the road to Emmaus with two disciples. In that time, Jesus unfolded all the things in the scriptures (Old Testament) concerning himself to these men. From Moses, the Prophets, and the Psalms, Jesus pointed to His suffering followed by His glory. Recorded in each gospel, Jesus also spoke of his of impending suffering, death, burial and resurrection, that must occur on the third day (Matt 16:21, Mark 8:31, Luke 9:22, John 2:19).
But where does the Old Testament teach on the resurrection? On a journey thru Third Day scripture references, we will review common Sunday school stories to see how they point us to the gospel message of Jesus’ third day resurrection. After Jesus was finished speaking on the road to Emmaus, the two men summed up their experience as “did our hearts not burn” when Jesus revealed Himself in the Old Testament stories.
