Through the plagues, God answers the question that Pharoah posed to Moses in Exodus 5:2: “Who is the Lord that I should obey his voice?” The question Pharoah asks is the same question we ask: Why should I bother submitting myself to God? And just as Pharoah hardens his heart rather then submit himself fully to the Lord, we often do the same. In the first three plagues God reveals Himself and Pharoah responds by digging ditches, making deals, and denying what those around him are saying, in our defiance and disobedience we often respond in the same way.
