The story of Moses seems to be a story of destiny: hidden by his mother to save his life, plucked out of the Nile by the daughter of Pharoah, raised as a prince of Egypt, obviously he is the one to save his people from their oppressors and lead them to freedom. However, the story is not nearly so neat and tidy as the one we tend to tell. At the age of 40, Moses kills an Egyptian beating a Hebrew and in fear he flees into the wilderness for the next 40 years. When life doesn’t go according to the script we think it ought to we can easily begin to wonder where God is and what is he up to? Moses’ story is a reminder that God’s script and ours don’t always align.
