As news about Jesus spread, people tried to explain who He might be. Some thought He was John the Baptist raised from the dead. Others believed He was Elijah, or one of the prophets from long ago. Even Herod was perplexed and curious.
In this passage, Luke shows us a world full of speculation about Jesus, but lacking true clarity. Curiosity and conversation about Jesus are not the same as genuine faith. Every generation forms its own theories about Him, but eventually each person must move beyond speculation and answer the question for themselves:
